There seemed to be some nerves on show at first during the first set, but once these settled down the audience was treated to some high quality tennis.  Not only was there some classic doubles net play, and great rallies too, but Leslie and Anjali deployed some great tactics by drawing Nicola and Val into the net and then lobbing them on a few occasions.  This probably enabled them to get ahead and ultimately win in 2 sets.

Leslie said “Many thanks to all who came down to watch our ladies doubles final. The support was greatly appreciated.  Anjali and I partnered well together opposite Val and Nicola. It was a suitably entertaining and competitive match, especially in the second set.”

Semi-Final

• Semi-Final 1 = [Nicola Barnard & Val Brisdon] def. [Georgie McCarthy & Susan Binks] 

Last Sunday, Nicola & Val battled through a very close 7-6; 6-4 win over Georgie & Susan in “An enjoyable morning of tennis” to book the final showdown vs. Leslie & Anjali.  Apparently “Susan had about 20 deuces” on one of her service games (and eventually won it) to illustrate how tight that match was!
