Special Visitor

Cerney Lakes Tennis Club welcomed a special visitor to our courts today.
Cornelia Oosthuizen is a Wheelchair Tennis player who represents Great Britain and was due to take part in the Paralympics this year.
She won a Bronze Medal for Wheelchair Tennis Doubles at the Invictus Games in 2017. And for good measure she also won Gold for golf at the same event.

Because of lockdown she has been unable to train at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton and until today she had not been on a tennis court for 10 weeks.

A friend of hers contacted me to say that Cornelia was coming to South Cerney for a socially distanced visit and could we allow Cornelia to use our courts for a hit.

David Tonner was delighted to take the opportunity to be on court with her for a 90 minute knock. He has just told me: “It was a real eye-opener trying to rally with a professional tennis player. I came off court exhausted!”

Cornelia was thrilled to be back on court and expressed her gratitude to our club acknowledging that we are all part of a wider tennis community in this country.
