With a membership of only 70 people, comprising two courts, Cerney Lakes Tennis Club, made incredible progress in the 2015 Gloucestershire Summer Tennis League.
Our Women's B team had a tremendous season finishing top of their division 6 achieving promotion to division 5. And the A team produced some fabulous tennis ending 2nd in division 4, also gaining a well deserved promotion.
The Men’s A team stormed to success with an amazing result – finishing top of Division 3 and promotion, as well as managing to enter a second team in Division 4.
Though unable to have floodlights due to the courts’ position near a bend in the road, we have not been deterred from a desire to enter winter league tennis. Last year for the first time we have entered the Stroud winter league. Matches are played on Sunday mornings.
The founding members’ vision for a fun, inclusive tennis club welcoming to all remains central to the club’s ethos. This year 2016 – 2017 we are offering free membership to juniors.
We can’t help feeling a little smug with our 2015 great results. Hats off to our great team captains.
This success was recognised with the award of the Aegon Club Special Achievement Award, added to which our Women's captain Wendy Murphy was runner-up for the Aegon Tennis Volunteer Award. Progress as a club is achieved by the support and enthusiasm of our membership – why not come and join us!
The club holds a mixed doubles tournament in the summer and has a full programme of roll up and team play in place.
Please do feel free to come along and join - we are a small and friendly group with a full range of abilities.
