Junior Coaching Weather Policy

We are proud to offer coaching throughout the whole year, keeping our players active and involved throughout the seasons. Our aim is to never cancel a session – a coach will be at the venue, as long as it is safe to do so.

This is for 3 main reasons:

  • We are committed to our players – our coaches will always be able to do something to engage and develop the players, whatever the weather.

  • The weather forecast is changeable and often unreliable – it is always disappointing to cancel a lesson for the weather to then change and find we could have played.

  • Communication – though we would always notify parents of a cancelled session, messages can be missed.

Safety

The safety of our players, parents and coaches is paramount and we will not run sessions on courts that are unsafe to play. Coaches may adapt sessions to involve more static play and reduce footwork in some cases but will always make an informed judgement of how playable the courts are in wet weather before allowing players onto court.

On very hot days, our coaches will ensure that players are safe by providing time in the shade and plenty of drinks breaks.

Please help us by ensuring children are dressed appropriately for the weather conditions –

  • A waterproof jacket and grippy shoes in wet weather

  • Plenty of layers, hat, and gloves in cold weather

  • Cool clothes, sunhat, and sun-cream in hot weather.

Please ensure that all players have a drink and are wearing trainers for their session.

Adverse weather plan

When it is not possible to be on court, our coaches will use available indoor space to run activities and games to develop tennis knowledge, tactical skills, fitness, and sportsmanship. We will always try to get the children on court whenever possible, but we feel that these sessions are also valuable in providing a comprehensive and well-rounded grasp of the game and build relationships between other players and coaches.

Cancellations – In the event that a session needs to be cancelled, we will always strive to inform you as early as possible, via Clubspark. You will then be offered a catch-up session, or a credit towards future courses.
