Success Stories

Although we consider the programmes we run to be successes in themselves, it is the people and the differences tennis has made to them that are our biggest successes so will highlight just a few of them here.

Robbie Hampshaw is a super lad who has become a very strong player and has made amazing personal development over the years. He has won gold medals at the GB Special Olympics, represents the club in mainstream competitions and takes part in all areas of the club programme. We have helped him develop his coaching skills as well and he has taken his Level 1 coaching course and helps us with the delivery of our disability coaching sessions.

Andrea Weston, is a wheelchair user, and before she discovered tennis she was experiencing a variety of difficult and serious mental health conditions. Tennis has transformed her life and whilst achieving great success with her competitive play, reaching a ranking of number 8 in the UK and winning a number of tournaments, she is also giving back to the game through all the volunteering support she gives to our programme as a level 2 Coach. She is a fantastic lady and an inspirational role-model.

Clive Blake is our one and only visually impaired (VI) tennis player, who has just competed in his very first tournament in Cambridgeshire (July 20180.  He's a genuinely lovely guy and such an inspiration.  Go Clive !

We are very proud of our high-flyers, but we are also equally proud of all the players, whatever their level, who continue to enjoy making friends, having fun, building their skills, getting exercise through their tennis sessions and gaining that self-confidence that comes from achieving and feeling comfortable.

For a number of our players travelling to Sheffield to take part in the GB Special Olympics was a huge life experience. Staying away from home and competing in front of large crowds was amazing for them all..plus they won loads of medals too!!!

We are so proud of all our players, whatever their tennis level.

Lastly, one of the biggest successes of the programme is what happens off the court when players, parents and carers can all relax and enjoy feeling at home
