2026 is the second year of our new members coaching programme.   We have worked hard to cater for a wide range of playing standards, from the Improvers through to Intermediates, to Team players.   In total, there will be four adult groups and one group for teens.   The club anticipates investing £1,200 which means we are able to subsidise the coaching by 50%.   This is a fantastic commitment and on a scale not seen before.   You will be asked to pay just £5 per session, the normal cost would be £10 per person.   

Every member of the club is invited to participate, just remember that spaces are strictly limited and it will be on a first come, first served basis.   You are only able to sign up for one group and on a session by session basis, this maximises the number of members able to benefit.  

The key points are as follows:

1. These sessions are open to fully paid up members only.
2. All the sessions will be coached by Patrick Armstrong.
3. There will be a maximum of eight players per session.
4. You must sign up with Patrick in advance on a session by session basis if you wish to participate – this helps manage numbers.
5. There are five coaching options (see below with the sign up instructions), you must choose just one to join
6. Patrick, with help from Duncan and Elena will ensure that each player is in the most appropriate group.
7. Don’t be offended if you are asked to change group, we want this to work for you and everyone in each group.
8. We hope to provide eight sessions for each group through the year, approximately once per month i.e. there will be eight sessions for Improvers, eight sessions for Intermediate etc.
9. There is a fee to play – the fee is £5 per session you sign up for, payable to Patrick.
10. The programme for the Improvers and Intermediates will be published on the coaching pages of the website.

FAQ

Question: What do I need to do to sign up?
Answer: If you are an Improver or Intermediate please sign up now by messaging Patrick on 07837 851190, ideally via WhatsApp.  Otherwise contact the person named in the list above.   Remember, you will need to sign up for just one group and on a session by session basis.

Question: I play in a team and wish to join one of the Team Coaching groups.   When will these occur and how do I sign up?
Answer: Both the Ladies and Men’s Team group coaching will take place during team practice.   Speak to your team captain to sign up.

Question: I am a teenager and wish to join the Teens Coaching group.   When will this occur and how do I sign up?
Answer: The Teens group will have their coaching during the Sunday afternoon Teens Casual Tennis.   Speak to Jonathan Wood, or send him an email (email: juniors@cuckfieldtennisclub.org.uk).

Question: How do I pay my £5?
Answer: Please pay your £5 to Patrick direct.   Patrick will let you know the best way to pay. 

We will evaluate how the programme is working throughout the year and will adapt as necessary.

The idea behind the programme is to make sure we offer coaching at the right standard for all members at an affordable price. It was designed by Rowan Williams, Carol Guest, Martin Shoesmith and Patrick Armstrong.
