Guidelines for Club Championship Leagues 2024
1 Overview
Similarly to last year, the Club Championships will be played out during the season in 6 leagues (Singles – Men’s and Ladies’; Doubles – Men’s, Ladies’, Mixed and Over 55s Mixed doubles). All double pairings (except the Over 55s) were self selecting, wherever possible, with any single entrants paired up by the Internal Convenors (James and Tom).
For all but the Ladies Singles and Over 55s doubles, there will be Semi-finals in August with winners competing in the Finals on 15th September (Singles) and 22nd September (Doubles).
This year, one court at the Wednesday’s Club Session can be used for playing matches – What’sApp Halford to book (make sure you get a reply to confirm) or just turn up on spec and hope it is available.
2 League Format
The size of each league depends on the number of entrants, but the aim is for a League to consist of no more than 4 participants. Since each entry plays all the other entries in their League, this means that everyone should get a minimum of 3 matches in each League.
The rules for the matches are:
- Leagues commence on 8th April.
- Matches to be completed by 29th July and Semi finals by 8th September.
- Matches consist of 2 normal sets; if a draw, then a third set is to be played as a championship tie-break (to 10 points with two points clear) to settle the match. Score recorded as 2-1 if championship tie-break or 2 – 0 if straight win. If there’s a tie in the number of ‘sets’ players win, then the head-to-head score of that match will decide final positions.
- Both entries are responsible for arranging their matches with walk-overs being awarded on the adjudication of the Playing Convenor if one or both entries refer for advice/judgment.
- Entrants to supply their own balls; club balls are not to be used except for the Finals.
3 Recording scores
Scores to be recorded in the appropriate league grid in the Club House. Use row to record score against column opponent.
Include games won.
Ranking in each League will be based on the highest total scores of each entrant.
