Newsletter June 2019

Members News Letter Wednesday 12th June 2019

We are nearly there. Fingers crossed we will be playing tennis on lovely new courts in the next two weeks.

Court Resurfacing & Floodlight project

The 6 courts are prepared ready to be painted. Paintwork was meant to start on Monday; a slight delay due to contractors other work commitments. Plus, the weather is holding them back.

The plan is for 3 courts to be painted first allowing us to continue play on the other 3. The paint takes a minimum of 48 hours to dry. We will let you know when work starts and when the courts are ready to play.

You can keep up to date on progress via Facebook: look for Dunbar Tennis Centre. And images are being posted on to our Instagram page.

Floodlights

This is phase 2. The ground works and ducting are in place for floodlights to go in. We are short of some funding to complete this and waiting to hear back from some funding bodies.

We will know more in the coming weeks.

Open Day Saturday 29th June

We are hosting an Open day from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday 29th of June. It is to show off the new courts, encourage people to play tennis and to gain new members.

Flyers are going out to every household in Dunbar and we have information on Facebook and Instagram. There are still folk in Dunbar that don’t know there are tennis courts in town and a tennis club. This is a chance for you to bring friends along to see the tennis club. There is no cost to take part.

To kick start the day we would like to select 12 adults and 12 children from our membership to play a fun 5 game set to officially open the new courts.

Please contact me, Tracy by email tracy@tower-farm.co.uk to say if you are able to take part in this and we will select names to make up doubles matches.

Volunteers on the day

There are number of jobs on the day and we need members to help.

Welcome and information desk – we need this to be manned from 12.45pm to 3.45pm. Four 1 hour slots. Please let me know if you can do this. There will be information sheets about membership and coaching.

Small fundraising opportunity: Selling home baking – please let us know what you can bring in terms of baking. Please bring along items uncut so we can cut tray bakes into similar sized portions. Again, we will need four people over the afternoon to help man this in the clubhouse with help from junior members too.

Afterwards, we hope to have a BBQ. More details to follow.

Membership fees

Thank you very much to all who have paid their membership fees for this season. You can collect a shoe tag from Bowe Sports shop on the High Street. Please attached this to your tennis shoes/keys/racket bag so it is on show when you are at the tennis courts. It tells everyone you have paid your fees.

For those still to pay, please go to the website link below.

The code to clubhouse door will be changed very soon, so please ensure you can gain access by paying your fees.

East Lothian Open

Starts Sunday 21st July for the week.

With new court surfaces, Dunbar is a host venue for the  East Lothian Tennis Open tournament.

Every year we like to encourage members to take part in the competition. It is a great opportunity to play in a local competition and gain more experience. You will need to register with the LTA to enter.

The under 10s (green) competition will be taking place at Dunbar on Sunday 21st of July from 10am. The semis and finals will then take place on Monday 22nd July in the morning.

Under 9s (orange) competition is a Round Robin followed by final all happening on Friday 26th of July. Play starts at 10am.

Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come along to watch matches.

There will be tennis being played from Sunday 21st 10am to 5pm,  Monday 22nd to Friday 26th full use of 6 courts 9am to 9pm.

Cafe in Clubhouse

We have asked the tournament committee if we can operate a cafe during the week of the East Lothian Open. It has been done by the club in previous years. However, more recently a catering company has been chosen to operate from the clubhouse.

It is our only opportunity during this week to make some money and we have discussed at length whether we have the man power and support to do it.

The feeling was this is the year to try; especially as we are trying to raise as much money as possible to improve the facilities.

I have to confirm to the organising committee very soon, so I would like as many members as possible to tell me whether they would be able to help. Provide home baking over the week and offer up some time to man the cafe.

The rough plan is to provide scones in the morning with juice/tea/coffee, have a range of food items from Costco available to buy and to look at providing toasties as hot snacks.

Please get in touch with me by email tracy@tower-farm.co.uk

I am looking for helpers, bakers, suggestions & ideas of how to run the cafe from Sunday 21st of July 9am to 5pm and Monday to Friday 22nd to 26th July from 9am to 6pm.
