Championship Rules

  1. Please ensure that matches are played by the due date so as not to impact the draw.   If there is a period of inclement weather, the committee will inform entrants of any change to the match due dates.
  2. All players will make every best effort to find a mutually convenient date to play matches.
  3. Any issues with playing matches by the due date should be taken up with the Championship Committee by emailing elytennisclub@hotmail.co.uk.
  4. All players will get to play in at least 2 matches either in the Championship or the Plate competition.  To confirm, a bye does not count as a played match.
  5. If a player is injured at the time of the “play-by” date and the match has not been played, then that player should concede the match.
  6. If a player in the doubles or mixed has to withdraw before they have played their first match, a replacement may be found providing it is communicated and approved by the championship committee and the first match is still played by the round deadline date.
  7. The winner(s) of each match will write the score (e.g. 4-6, 7-5, 6-1) on the Championship Draw in the Clubhouse and should email the result to elytennisclub@hotmail.co.uk
  8. Players will move themselves forwards or backwards on the Draw, writing their name(s) clearly.
  9. Players will provide their own tennis balls of match quality.
  10. Each match will be the best of 3 sets.  If 6-6, each set will be settled by a tiebreak – first to 7 with 2 clear points.
  11. All matches, without exception, must be played at Ely Tennis Club.
  12. All entrants to the Club Championship must be a current member of Ely Tennis Club.
  13. Finals Day will be held on 24th September 2023 (reserve date 1st October 2023) and all Finals will be played on this date.
  14. If finalists are no longer available for finals day, finalists should notify the championship secretary as soon as possible. If the finalists are unable to attend finals day, their semi-final opposition will be promoted to the final as the new finalists. If finals day is cancelled for any reason, e.g. weather, all finals will be held on the reserve finals day. If the finalists are unable to attend the reserve finals day, their semi-final opposition will be promoted to the final as the new finalists.
