Doubles box league rules:

  • One match to be played with new divisions updated every month
  • There are 4 players in each division (some divisions might have 3 regular +1 guest player, see below rule nr.4)
  • Players will have numbers allocated according to the rating in the division. Player number 4 is responsible for organising the match
  • Guest player rule - if one of the players can’t play for any reason, player number 4 must find a substitute - can be any member of the club (usually someone from a different division). Result of a guest player doesn’t count towards promotion or relegation
  • Order of play:

Players 1&4 Vs players 2&3

Players 1&3 Vs players 2&4

Players 1&2 Vs players 3&4

  • Match format – 1 full set with each partner, 3 sets in total. Normal sets, standard tie-break at 6:6. Results - the player with the most points wins the division/promotion, the player with the least games is relegated.
  • If 2 players have the same points at the end of the match – there will be 2 additional championship tie-breaks (first to 10 points) with each of the remaining players. For example:

Player 1 – 18 points

Player 2 – 14 points

Player 3 – 10 points

Player 4 – 10 points

2 championship tie-breaks to be played to decide who finished 4th

Players 1&3 Vs players 2&4

Players 1&4 Vs players 2&3

If 3 players have the same points at the end of the match - the same rule applies, but with 3 championship tie-breaks to decide final positions.

  • Result of the match to be posted on relevant Whatsapp group with all the scores including the tie-breaks.
  • If match is not played nobody from the division gets promoted and player 4 (organiser) is relegated (if division below has a winner)
  • Promotions and relegations can vary, if more players join or leave the box league. There might be a situation where 3rd placed player will be relegated too.
  • New players joining the league might find themselves 1-2 divisions lower than they are expected to be.
  • “Safety net” rule – if someone can’t play the match, but is willing to continue in next round, he/she can use a “safety net” – missing a match without being relegated. In this case usual guest player rule applies and player finished 3rd is relegated. Player missing the match will be placed in nr.4 for the next round. The rule can only be used once in the same division. If the same player missing the next round match, he/she will be relegated.
