Sidmouth Tennis Club were the guests of the Hemyock Tennis Club on Monday 28th October for a winter friendly match. This was the first time Hemyock and Sidmouth have met and this inaugural match was played on a dry but cold evening under the LED lighting installed earlier this year. Sidmouth Tennis Club have approaching 200 members and field 3 teams in the winter leagues as well as having junior’s representation at county level so we weren’t too sure how we might fare!!
Hemyock represented by Karen& Malcolm Steer, Sue & Phil Cooper were narrowly beaten but there were some very competitive games across the mixed as well as pairs doubles with multiple deuces as well as a couple of tie break deciders.
Our thanks to Debbie, Gill, Peter and Martin who were selected for their club and made the journey up from the coast.
Special thanks to Martin Dawes - Sidmouth Tennis Club Chairman - for his help in organising the Sidmouth team and supporting this new fixture.
It was generally agreed the evening was a great success and we’ll be invited down to Sidmouth in the spring for a return fixture. Looking forward to it!
