Joppa Community Tennis Club

Joppa Tennis is a small community club located in the heart of Portobello. The courts were constructed in the 1920s or 30s when the then new housing was constructed. The current coaching programme is delivered by Head Coach Finn McLean.

The Club has gone from strength to strength over the years and now boasts over 200 members, mainly family memberships. The costs have been kept as low as possible to make the courts as accessible as possible, for this reason Joppa remains one of the cheapest single/family membership clubs in Scotland.

The courts were relaid in September 2020 and the old tarmac courts were replaced with a top quality all-weather surface which has proven to be invaluable. The new surface is a modern polymeric Tennitec Pro surfacing system, constructed from a rubber shock pad and has a polyurethane coating applied over the top. This make-up is designed to lower impact on the joints and lower limbs so is perfect for fast paced tennis matches.

Then in October 2022, arriving all the way from France, our state-of-the-art Tweener (LED) floodlights were installed, thereby enabling after-dark tennis at Joppa for the first time!

We offer coaching for children and adults of all abilities, affordable junior holiday camps during the easter and summer and regular team trainings for our squads. These classes have proven to be very popular and only continue to grow. The club hosts regular Open Days and Junior/Senior Tournaments throughout the year. We are a Tennis Scotland affiliated club, therefore allowing members to enter into the Wimbledon ballot. An AGM is held and a small committee take day to day decisions on behalf of the membership.

If anyone would like any information about the club please feel free to get in touch! Also feel free to also join our Facebook Group, which is linked at the bottom of the page🎾
