Knebworth Parish News Article - June 2021

Following no play until the end of March there has been a massive change and with the fine April weather there has been plenty of activity. This has carried on between the May showers, showing the value of us investing in our 2 new all-weather courts.  Hopefully we shall be able to convert our other block of 2 courts to having an all-weather surface in 2022 or 2023. The preparatory levelling work on the other courts will take place till later in the summer.

The Club has seen a surge of new members both adult and junior, although usually our courts can accommodate people at their preferred times. The Covid restrictions still mean we cannot socialise after games and tournaments and the Clubhouse can only be used for emergency purposes.

Coaching – junior coaching has been in such high demand that we have put on extra classes and our coach Dan Clegg has an assistant now for all the Saturday morning classes.  Children do not have to be club members to take part. For adults, with the approach of the delayed league games, we are concentrating currently on coaching tactics and match-play for the various standards. Other coaching is available from our coach Dan and is not just restricted to members.  coaching@knebworthtennisclub.co.uk

Thursday Club night –this is now back and firmly established with usually all the courts being used apart from when the weather has been showery. However, because of Covid, members still need to notify their planned attendance in advance via WhatsApp and register on arrival.

Sunday afternoon tennis - Sunday tournaments started in April and occur approximately every 2 weeks. On other Sundays there is normally a more informal arrangement and again weather permitting usually a good turnout with most of the courts used. Again, notification in advance is still required.

Inter Club matches – these are gradually getting underway slightly later than usual and with some adjustments with some just being “friendly” matches. The delayed summer Datchworth league matches, will start in June, but with a short season there will be no promotions or relegations this year. Once more we have had no problems in recruiting members and we are entering seven teams.

Hopefully it will be possible to lift the final restrictions during the summer. Non-members who are interested to find out more can either check our website  www.knebworthtennisclub.co.uk  which we try to keep up to date, or contact us by email  enquiries@knebworthtennisclub.co.uk
