£542 raised for 2wish upon a star. What a brilliant event! A really good turnout to support a fantastic cause.
Club members and tennis parents, together with Rhian and her team of helpers worked tirelessly to put on a fabulous day for our members and guests. The courts were jam packed with players and tables creacked under the weight of a host of fabulous home-made goodies. The serve speed radar gun was a popular attraction for the older players while the younger ones enjoyed rallying on mini courts with parents and club coaches. However, an hour into proceedings and the heavens opened which meant a mad scramble into the pavilion where, once dried off, everybody stayed and simply waited until the storm passed. 45 minutes later we were back on court in bright sunshine and carried on as if nothing had happened. The bar did a brisk trade, hit a ball through John MacEnroe’s mouth was great fun, Gorgeous George gave hugs to children and posed for photos. When the Police arrived, we thought that we were in serious trouble but they allowed children to investigate the police van and entered into the spirit of the occasion. They really were great sports and joined in with our team cones tournament which was won (naturally) by Team Wales who displayed great skill and fighting spirit with frying pans and wooden rackets.
It really was a thoroughly enjoyable day and we raised a fantastic £542 for 2 wish and had some very positive enquiries about beginners coaching at the club. Sincere thanks to all who pitched in to make the day such a success to local businesses and Tennis Wales who donated prizes and to everyone who cooked and baked.
