Ladies Winter league - 2022

First match result  -  Meldreth v Duxford

Jo and Jenny Shepherd - lost 3- 6, 3-6, and 0-6, 1-6

Jan and Sue Stanford - lost  0-6, 1-6 and 2-6, 6-7

Lost 0-8 sets, 16 games to 49.

 

Second match result - Meldreth v Cocks and Hens

Kath Betts  and Janet Martin - won 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1

Jan and Sue Stanford -  won 6-4, 6-3, drew 6-0, 3-6

Win 7 sets to 1, 45 games to 14.

 

Third match result - Meldreth v Ely

Kath Betts  and Janet Martin - won 6-0, 6-1 and drew 2-6, 7-5

Jan Butchers and Sue Evans - - drew 6-1, 4-6, and lost 3-6, 5-7

Draw - 4 sets all, 39 games to Meldreth, 32 to Ely.

 

 

The Ladies first match in the Summer League 2022 was at Home on Sunday 8th May at 10 am. 

The opposition was a team called Tenis from Ely.

This was a hard fought match which we lost sets 1 - 7.

Players were Sue Stanford and Kath Betts, and Jo Kitteridge and Jan Butchers.

The 1st pair lost to the 1st pair 4-6, 3-6 and to the 2nd pair 4-6, 5-7

The 2nd pair drew with the 2nd pair 6-4, 4-6 and lost to the 1st pair 1-6, 1-6.

 

2nd match - Away at Fulbourn at 10.15 - 15th May.

Players were Jan Butchers and Jo Kitteridge, and Sue Stanford and Jackie Holmes

The 1st pair lost to the 1st pair - 0-6, 1-6 and the the 2nd pair 0-6, 1-6.

The 2nd pair lost to the 2nd pair - 0-6, 1-6 and to the 1st pair 1-6, 2-6.

The courts were like Astroturf/carpet and very different to the surfaces we normally play on. 

In spite of the scores, many of the sets had lots of deuces and some hard fought games we just failed to win.

Lost sets - 0 - 8.

 

3rd match - Home v Cocks and Hens - 22nd May

Jan Butchers and Jo Kitteridge

Sue Stanford and Jackie Holmes

1st pair v 2nd pair  -  3-6, 0-6           

1st pair v 1st pair -     3-6, 1-6

2nd pair - v 1st pair - 0-6, 0-6 

2nd pair v 2nd pair  -   1-6, 0-6

Again - the scores don't reflect the many deuces and long rallies both pairs contributed.

Lost sets 0 - 8

 

4th match - 29th May - Home v St Neots

Unfortunately, St Neots could only field 2 players.

1st pair - Jo Kitteridge and Janet Martin - v 1st pair - 0-6, 3-6

2nd pair - Sue Standon and Jackie Holmes - v 1st pair - 0-6, 0-6

The other 4 sets were conceded to Meldreth 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0

So a win 27 games to 24, a draw in terms of sets.

 

5th match - 4th June - Away at Histon

This match was played on GRASS which we got used to quite quickly and made a nice change.

1st pair - Kath Betts and Jo Kitteridge - v 1st pair - 6-3, 6-4

1st pair  v 2nd pair - 7-6, 6 - 0

2nd Pair - Jan Butchers and Sue Stanford - v 2nd pair - 7 - 5, 6 - 7 - tiebreak loss 8 - 10

2nd pair v 1st pair - 1 - 6, 2- 6

Sets 5 - 3 win!!!

 

6th match v Ely Away

1st pair - Kath Betts and Jo Kitteridge - v 1st pair - 4 - 6, 6 - 2

1st pair v 2nd pair - 6 - 3, 6 - 0 

2nd pair  Sue Stanford and Janet Martin - v  1st pair - 1 - 6, 6 - 3

2nd pair v 2nd pair - 6 -1 , 6 - 2

Win - 6 sets to 2!
