General Club Rules

These rules are in place to ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable experience for all members, guests and non-members. By using the Club’s facilities, you agree to follow the guidelines below.

Players or individuals entering the tennis courts do so at their own risk. The court owners shall not be held liable for any injuries, damages, or losses incurred during their time on the premises.

1. Membership & Guests

  • Members are those who have paid their subscription to the Club.
  • Members are responsible for ensuring their guests adhere to the Club's  rules.
  • Non members are welcome and will have booked and paid in advance for a court. By doing so they accept to abide by The Milland Tennis Club's rules.

2. Court Reservations & Usage

  • Courts must be reserved in advance via the Club’s booking system.
  • Arrive on time for your booked session and vacate the court promptly, especially if others are waiting.
  • If a court remains unoccupied 15 minutes after the start of a booking, it may be reassigned.
  • Members may not book courts on behalf of others without playing in the session.
  • Juniors under the age of 13 years must be accompanied on court by their parent/carer or another adult who has expressly agreed to take responsibility for them.  Those responsible must ensure the children are aware of and abide by the Club's rules.
  • Non-members are not allowed to play on the courts unless the required  fee has been paid at the Milland Village Shop or on line.
  • No games other than tennis may be played on the courts.
  • If appropriate, after playing, please reduce the tension of the nets.
  • All court users must be prepared to show ID, if requested, to enable their membership/payment to be checked.
  • Use of the courts and facilities is entirely at your own risk. The Club accepts no liability for injury, loss, or damage.

3. Attire & Equipment

  • Proper tennis attire, including non-marking tennis shoes, is always required.
  • Only approved tennis rackets and balls may be used on court.
  • Shirts must be always worn while on the courts and in communal areas.

4. Behaviour & Sportsmanship

  • Always show respect to fellow players and spectators and keep noise to a minimum.
  • Abusive language, aggressive behaviour, and unsportsmanlike conduct are not tolerated and, if a complaint is made, it will be considered seriously by the Committee.

5. Health & Safety

  • Courts must not be used in wet, icy or unsafe conditions. Always check surface conditions before play and report any concerns.
  • Any injuries sustained during play must be reported immediately.
  • No glass containers, chewing gum, alcohol, or fizzy drinks are permitted on the courts.
  • Smoking is not allowed anywhere on or near the courts.
  • If you are the last to leave the courts after play kindly ensure the gate is closed and the padlock secured.
  • Members should not disclose the padlock's combination to any non-member.

7. Club Events & Coaching

  • Members are encouraged to participate in Club tournaments, social events, and activities.
  • Coaching is only permitted by the Club's approved professionals, which are on the Club's website.
