A Flying Start to 2019!

Oxfordshire’s Under 16 Shires League team made a flying start to 2019 by winning back to back matches on Sunday. The team travelled to Bristol where they took on hosts Avon 2nds winning 18-2. After a short break, they then played Devon and won 13-7. Representing Oxfordshire were Adam Burden, Harry Jones, Matt Dunn, Albie Marriott, Holly Craig, Rebecca Norkett, Catherine Cousins and Eleanor Hoch.

There were also some notable individual performances by Oxfordshire Junior players over the festive break. Just before New Year, Ben Horseman and Jason Ou travelled to the Netherlands to play in the Carlton International Youth Tournament. The tournament is a long established one and attracts players from all over Europe and includes both an individual and team competition.

Ben Horseman was part of the England Team that won the team competition as well as winning Gold in the under 13 boys doubles and a bronze in the mixed doubles. Jason Ou had possibly the best tournament of his career so far by winning a bronze medal in the highly competitive under 13 boys singles competition.

Domestically, last weekend saw a host of medals for Oxfordshire players.  Ethan Rose collected two Gold medals at the Nottingham under 17 Gold tournament. The sixteen year old former National Junior champion won the boys doubles and mixed doubles titles.

Ben Horseman won singles Gold at the Webber under 15 silver tournament played in Milton Keynes whilst Jason Ou made the longer journey to York for the Yorkshire under 15 silver and came away with bronze medals for the boys singles and doubles.
