Tournament Round-Up

The weekend saw two Oxfordshire juniors travel to Aire sur La Lys in Northern France to take part in the French under 17 Open tournament and both came away with Silver medals.

Ethan Rose who the previous weekend had won the English National under 19 singles title showed impressive form knocking out the number 3 seed and reigning European under 15 champion, Alex Lanier in the semi finals in a hard fought, 3 set match. However, he was unable to overcome, Christopher Vittoriani of Denmark in the final losing 19-21, 15-21.

Eleanor Butler took part in both the singles and girls doubles competitions but found more success in the doubles where she reached the final with partner, Cara Collins (Cornwall). There the unseeded pair met Alison Drouard and Laeticia Jaffrennou of France, the number 4 seeds but lost 21-23 , 13-21.

Whilst his sister was abroad, Oliver Butler was also in action picking up a Silver medal in the boys singles competition at the under 17 Gold Star event in Redbridge, Essex.

Closer to home , Oxfordshire held its own under 13 tournament at St Helens School, Abingdon on Sunday which attracted around 65 players from all over the country including 16 Oxfordshire players who took home 4 medals.

Performance of the tournament came from Clement Jin who won the boys singles title defeating Suvir Muniyal (Yorkshire) 21-9.

There was also a singles Bronze for Ryan Tao as well as Silver medals for Freddie Driver and Ethan Soanes who were runners up in the Boys Doubles.
