Walking Tennis
TENNIS IS a game EVERYONE can play.
At Portcullis Tennis Club we believe tennis can be adapted to suit players with a variety of physical abilities. In every form, tennis increases activity, provides mental stimulation, improves wellbeing and offers a social outlet — which is why our popular Walking Tennis sessions run every Monday afternoon.
Walking Tennis is a slower, simpler version of the game played with softer, less‑pressurised balls for a more consistent bounce. The Double Bounce rule — where each shot must be able to bounce twice in the court in order to score — gives you more time to reach the ball, reduces angles and makes lobbing less effective. That all makes the court feel smaller and the game much more manageable, so it’s an ideal way to learn tennis or to continue playing if you prefer a less physically demanding version.
Besides the physical benefits, Walking Tennis at Portcullis is about friendship, confidence and fun. One member summed it up for us:
“Walking tennis has literally changed our lives… For me I personally wouldn't know what I would do on a Thursday now without tennis.”
We’re so pleased to see the difference the sessions make — new friends, improved skills, and plenty of delicious cake!!
