Club Tennis Championships 2025 Finals Day

Sunday 2 November 2025 marked the exciting conclusion of this year's Romsey & Abbey Tennis Club Championships, following several months of competitive tennis across all categories. Players and spectators enjoyed an excellent day of high-quality matches, fine autumn weather, and great sportsmanship as the finalists battled for their respective titles.

This year's event featured finals in Men's SinglesWomen's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles - with familiar faces returning to defend their crowns and some new champions making their mark.

In the Men's Singles final, Tomasz Wojtak claimed his first singles title at the club after a hard-fought victory over Tom Coward. In a tight two-set battle, Wojtak held his nerve in both tiebreaks to win 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). Both players produced impressive tennis, but it was Wojtak's consistency and composure on key points that made the difference.

The Women's Singles final saw top seed Pati Buckle successfully defend her title against Wei Lingard-Lane, winning 6-2, 6-4. Buckle's powerful baseline play and accurate serving gave her the edge, though Lingard-Lane pushed her all the way in an entertaining and high-quality match.

In the Men's Doubles, defending champions Tomasz Wojtak and Adam Johnson once again proved their dominance, overcoming Michael Stickley and Atilio Soto in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The pair combined strong serving with sharp net play to retain their title for another year, rounding off a successful day for Wojtak, who triumphed in both the singles and doubles events.

The Women's Doubles final was one of the most exciting matches of the day. Second seeds Wei Lingard-Lane and Grace Cheng battled back from a set down to defeat Veronica Broughton-Shaw and Ruby Cox, winning 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7). After losing a close first set, Lingard-Lane and Cheng showed determination and teamwork to force a deciding championship tie-break, eventually clinching their first title together.

Unfortunately, the Mixed Doubles final did not take place due to an injury withdrawal. As a result, second seeds Pati Buckle and Kevin Stickley were awarded the win by walkover against Veronica Broughton-Shaw and Jose Dignomo. The club extends best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured player.
