It was a full house for the re-arranged New Year Grand Slam event held on the morning of Saturday 3rd February. Split into 2 teams aptly named ‘The Winners’ and ‘The Champions’ after some creative, we’re told Djokovic worthy, warm up drills we all then played 5 short matches to decipher the winning team.
Likely due to the incredible intel match selections by Kirsten this resulted in a draw so the points from those warm up drills ended up to be the all important deciding factor (we’ll all remember to pay more attention next time)!
‘The Winners’ were crowned champions (very confusing). Anyway, that wasn’t the end and with only 2 prizes there was everything to play for. With everyone in the winning team taking part in a fast and furious wipeout game that was certainly not for the faint hearted, (when you have 5 people on either side of the net with a racket as a weapon what could go wrong?), Natalie G came through as the well deserved winner. Congratulations also go to Natalie C who won the most points of the day and both winners took away a much coveted RWBTC mug.
Keep an eye out for more events over the coming months. These are open to all members and are a great opportunity to play with all levels of players and meet new people, with the emphasis on fun!
