DLTC CHAMPIONSHIP 2023- DAY 1 & 2

DAY 2 - SUNDAY 4TH JUNE

Sunday was another glorious day at the club with slightly fewer matches but equally good tennis.

Marcio and Sarah managed to overturn a strong start from Kathryn and Matt and pip them to the post with an edgy 10-7 win in the championship tie break.
Alan showed his credentials by winning against a game Robin Fox in straight sets.

Naz and Petra were playing on their debut in front of a good crowd and lost to Sarah and Sue.
In a match of big hitters, Jay and Jason narrowly beat Joe and Ben.
Other matches saw the Jones family returning to winning ways alongside some strong performances from John P, Matt Mears, Mike, Marc and others.

The juniors are getting under way from today too.

Come down today (Monday) for Fajitas night and give an all-star cast a great cheerful support :)

We look forward to seeing a big crowd.

DAY 1 -SATURDAY 3RD JUNE

The opening day of the Dulwich LTC 2023 Club Champs saw the glorious sunshine and superb tennis we're set to enjoy in equal measure over the next fortnight.

26 matches across various adult categories were fought in good spirit, with seven of them going to the Championship tie-break decider!

Aifric Uwakwe got past Hilary Woof 3-6, 6-3 (10-6) in the longest match of the day - two and a half hours! Top effort from both players. Oenone Williams caused an upset getting past Kathryn Seward, too.

In the Men's Singles, Matthew Daniel beat Stephen Thomas in three, as Jamie Young did to Tony Relandau. Joseph Randall held his nerve against Jack Matts, winning (10-8) in the breaker, too.

In a match which highlighted how unfair tennis scoring can be, Alan Higgins beat David Houlihan 4-1, 4-0 in the Mens 55+, but it took an hour and a half to play those nine games!

Youngsters Miles Speer and Lucas Wood held their nerve to beat Phil Harper and Marcio Machado in a Mens Doubles classic. Watch out for Miles in the Mens Singles, too. He put on quite a show on the show court in his First Round.

A big shout to yesterday's caterers, Jonny Aldrich and Imran Momen, who loudly backed up their meat options with a high-quality salad bar. The culinary standard has been set!

Also thanks to Nick Bramston who did a 2-hour 'graveyard shift,' although with a full evening of matches scheduled from Monday onwards, there's unlikely to be much more downtime for anybody.

The coaching tip of the day was from our very own Jonny "get on your skates, mate" to Phil Harper.

Come down today (Sunday) for Gnocchi pasta and salads.

We look forward to seeing a big crowd.

Click "players" and search your name to see your matches date. Then, click on "matches" and select the day of your match to see the time and court allocated for you.
Please give your result to the coach present on site by the result sheet or, failing to do this, email or text Sebastien or Jordan as soon as possible to avoid us having to chase you.
Balls will be available for purchase at the bar every day should you not have some.
If you have any questions regarding the format or else, simply get in touch with us.

Format of competition
- The format will be two normal sets with a potential championship tie break for the adult draws. Vets tournaments will use the fast four format as a trial with a view to potentially roll it out to all categories next year (full scoring format will be explained to those concerned separately).
- You have to provide your own tennis balls for the matches except for the finals.
-The ladies and men's singles event will have a plate draw attached to it so that all players losing their first round will be able to play more matches.
- Weekday matches will be scheduled from 4pm (for junior matches) with the evening slots at 7pm and the third at 8.30pm (on the front three courts only).
- Weekend matches will start from 9am and then go all the way to 7.30pm so there will be 7 different time slots (every 1.5h).

Scheduling and availability for matches
- IT IS VITAL THAT YOU EMAIL SEBASTIEN (sebtenniscoaching@gmail.com) WITH YOUR UNAVAILABILITY PRIOR TO THE DRAW AND SCHEDULE BEING MADE.
- Players that are away for more than 3 consecutive days and/or away for the last weekend cannot enter the club championships (obviously, if you can't play the final, you should not enter).
- The organisers (Sebastien and Jordan) will schedule all of the matches for the competition
- You must seek to make yourself available to play your matches when they are scheduled.
- The organisers will be as accommodating as possible in the scheduling of matches but cannot guarantee total flexibility as it involves nearly 200 players.
- Players should contact the organiser to get their opponent's contact details if needed. Please, DO NOT schedule your match without the organisers knowledge as this will have an effect on the scheduling.
- You will have to be ready to play on grass, hard or clay. Players cannot choose their courts.
- The software used will show your schedule, court number, opponent's name and the time of your match.
It is your responsibility to check your match times. We cannot possibly contact every player every day. If you have the link to enter, you can use the same link to check your schedule.
- When you know your schedule, we would recommend that you liaise directly with your opponent to confirm they are aware of the scheduled match also.
PLEASE, do let Sebastien know as early as you can if you cannot make an evening, a day or your match as it would mean that your opponent could be notified early to avoid coming for nothing.
- No shows for a scheduled match with no prior communication will be treated as a walk over.
- A player can be scratched at the organiser’s discretion – we do not want to be overly harsh in this regard but sometimes it cannot be avoided.
- All players must treat the organisers (Sebastien, Jordan and his team) with the utmost respect at all times
- Any inappropriate behaviour or attitude to the organisers will result in player being scratched

What to expect at the club over the two weeks 3rd of June to 18th ofJune at the club

- Every weekday evening, all courts are expected to be used up for the Club Championships. Most courts will also be used at weekends but social sessions will be preserved as will team matches.
- We expect the club to be very busy at all times with the expected number of participants
- All members / non-members are welcome / encouraged to come down and watch at any point
- There will be a BBQ every or most evenings / weekend so people can get food at the club during the event.
