Introduction

Vulcan Park is a 14 acre town centre park situated in the centre of Workington on Vulcan’s Lane. The bulk of the land now known as Vulcan Park was purchased by Workington Corporation in 1908 and after being used as allotment gardens during the First World War, it was formally opened as the first public park in Workington on 4 June 1925 by Alderman J McMullen.

Today the park remains a valued amenity and is used by the local community for relaxation and recreation as well as a variety of events and activities throughout the year.

We currently have three outdoor tennis courts available for booking.

The park also has:

- a Children’s play area,  all age trim trail,  playing field including goal posts, bowling green with bower, network of paths / benches, lighting, wildflower meadow areas, reflection garden, Nightingale Garden to remember those we lot during COVID-19, Cenotaph, WWII wooden statue and lots of grass areas for you to play and bring your own picnic.

Book your tennis session for 1 hour at only £4 per hour or sign up to our annual membership for just £25!

Bookings are only available up to two weeks in advance at the moment.

There is on street disc parking around the park for one hour.

There are also a number of pay and display car parks within the town itself. Please visit our Visit Workington website for more information and public transport links.
