A LETTER FROM OUR CHAIRMAN

This has been a very busy week at the tennis club.

At our extraordinary general meeting on Thursday 20th the proposal for increases to subscriptions was approved. We have adopted a modest increase of £5 per annum for each senior individual and junior fees will stay the same. The full list of the updated subscriptions can be found on our website.

We also resolved to increase the amount to be charged for floodlights from £6 to £10 for 90 minutes and this will require a change to a token system. The tokens will be available to be purchased from the bar.

On Saturday 22nd we had a very successful Club Clean up day with good numbers of new and old members helping to put the courts and grounds into good order for the season. We know that members from other clubs notice what splendid facilities we have and the cleanup day has certainly improved our club surroundings. Many thanks to all those who contributed.

On Sunday the 23rd we held a ‘She rallies’ fun day for girls and ladies. The weather held off and it was good to see 26 people enjoying the activities for ball and racket skills. Thanks to Carol, Chris, Kirsty, Margherita and Maria for supporting this drive to get women into tennis.

Last year’s event brought a good number of new members to the club and we hope that similar numbers will join this year, so we are again following it up with 6 Rusty Racquet sessions starting this Sunday. We also recognise how members' support is important for potential new members to develop their skills at the club.

It was also refreshing to see the courts being used for Matches from the club championship which is now fully underway. The veterans tournament is coming to a close with a few semi-finals and finals left to play.

League matches have also commenced and your support at home matches is welcomed. Ladies home matches are usually on Wednesdays and men's are on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Staffordshire LTA are undergoing some changes with a different more club focussed approach and with a new website https://staffordshiretennislta.co.uk.

We are holding our annual Club Open Day on Saturday 13th May. This is an opportunity for non members to try out tennis and see what a great club we have. Junior sessions start from 10am. New adult and teenagers can join in from 1pm. We will run a tennis tournament in the afternoon with a barbecue and raffle. Donated raffle prizes are most welcome.

And finally, we are sorry to hear of the passing of Barry Reynolds a long term member, Committee member and Vice President of the club. Barry and Sheila worked very hard for the Club over many years and we send our condolences to Sheila.

Steve.
