About Us
History
Founded in 1949 by the former members of Highbury United Athletic Association who bought the land on which it now stands at auction. The site had housed a tennis club before WW2 but in the intervening years had been a pig farm and a small arms factory.
Three courts were initially established and another added in 1951, the rest of the land was laid out as Croquet Lawns with the present car park being a grass singles court.
In 1975 a bar was added followed by an enlargement of the clubhouse in 1977, with the decline of the Croquet Section the lawns were replaced with the 2 courts in front of the clubhouse in 1986. They were floodlit in 1988 and a third court also added.
On Boxing Day 1987 an arson attack gutted the clubhouse but with the hard work of the members it was restored and re-opened by the Mayor of Southgate in October 1988.
The three newest courts were re-surfaced to LTA standards in 1996 allowing us to host the annual LTA Ratings Tournament.
A flash flood in August 2015 caused some serious damage to club and after many months of refurbishment and hard work it is once again fit for purpose with showers added in the changing rooms and central heating.
Waterfall continues to fulfil the need for a local friendly competitive Club with teams in the Middlesex Tournaments. Members are encouraged to enjoy the sport at whatever level they attain. We support this by various social events to encourage future Members and look forward to many more successful years ahead.
