Club Rules and Information

This position is held by Heather Robertson. Her contact details can be found in the ‘documents’ section of the website and on the poster displayed on the clubhouse window and on the clubhouse noticeboard.
Safeguarding, Diversity and Inclusion Policies
These can be found in the ‘documents’ section of the website and are also displayed on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.
Play
- Tennis shoes must be worn at all times on the courts. These should not be too heavily ribbed on the sole as damage to the court surface may result.
- Balls that are hit onto the bowling green should be retrieved as follows: either a) ask one of the bowling club members to retrieve the ball for you if they are on the green or b) if the above is not an option, retrieve the ball using the steps provided to get onto the bowling green and walk slowly across the bowling green as required.
- Junior members of a competent level and who adhere to court etiquette are welcome to play at Club Sessions.
- At all times (except coaching times, club sessions or other organised club events) all members and visitors (who have paid) have equal rights to book and use the courts.
Access to the courts
The courts are padlocked when not in use. Members and those using pay-and-play are advised of the code for the combination locks in the email confirming their court booking.
Please lock the courts after play and don’t leave the code on show on the lock!
Court Closure
The Committee reserves the right to close the courts for matches/competitions or for maintenance. News about this can usually be found on the club website, particularly under ‘court bookings'.
Floodlighting
West Linton Tennis Club has floodlights for all three courts for times when play is to be continued into the darker hours. This facility is only available to members and their guests and not anyone playing on a pay-and-play basis (as access to the clubhouse is needed to access the light switches).
The floodlights operate by turning on the respective switches which are located inside the clubhouse on the right as you enter the clubhouse, at eye level. The switches are clearly marked. Please only turn on the lights for to the particular court you are using. There is no charge for using the floodlights at present.
To gain access to the clubhouse you will need to obtain a fob by paying a deposit to our Treasurer. To do this go to the 'memberships' section on the website and click on the 'fob deposit' button - you can then pay the £10 and our Treasurer, Ian, will get the fob to you.
Activity on the courts should cease by 10pm so please stop before then and allow time for the lights to cool down (the lights do stay on for a few minutes after being switched off – this is to allow enough time to walk to the car parking area). It is recommended practice to stay in the vicinity of the courts to check that the lights you have been using have gone off.
If you are going to the courts in the evening, please take care as it harder to see the steps in the dark; a torch may be advisable in this situation.
Please remember to switch off all lights and appliances in the clubhouse before you leave.
Maintenance of courts
If there is debris on the courts please either sweep the court or use another one. If leaves etc are trampled into the courts it makes them slippery when wet and shortens the life of our courts.
Please take particular care accessing the courts in wet weather. Members are reminded that it is their own responsibility to assess whether to play in or after poor weather conditions.
Clubhouse – access and tidiness
Members have the opportunity to have a fob for a deposit of £10 which will give access to the clubhouse. To make this work all members are asked to leave the clubhouse safe and tidy after their use (especially after matches and coaching sessions). Food should not be left out. Please wash up any mugs/beakers you have used and put them away. If necessary sweep the floor. Please put tennis balls/equipment back where you found it. And finally put all sweetie papers and rubbish in the bin!
Please note that the Club has no changing facilities and players are asked to come to the courts ready to play and to go home to change.
West Linton Tennis Club is part of the local community and we would urge everyone to make use of the bins provided in order to keep the place clean.
Supervision for Juniors
In line with LTA guidelines, we would recommend that juniors under 13 do not have unsupervised access to the courts or clubhouse.
Club clothing
Club Tennis Balls
Members are welcome to use the club tennis balls when joining in one of the club sessions. There is no charge for their use.
Members playing at other times will require to provide their own tennis balls.
Visitor's and guest's fees
Visitors are more than welcome to make use of the tennis courts at West Linton for a modest fee.
Guests of members are charged £4 per guest per day.
Fees are payable online. To pay for a guest then go to 'Bookings' on website - click on Visitor fee and pay the fee online by Stripe. Ignore the references to 'two week membership' - the fee payable covers the guest for that day.
Non-members can book a court online - either through the Club website or by using LTA Rally. All courts are available for non-members to book in the same way as for members.
