Tavistock Tennis Club has a very active junior membership, from ages 4 to 17.  We offer a range of coaching programmes, events, tournaments and league matches, available for a range of ages and abilities.

Both our coaches, Rhys and Inga, offer group coaching for juniors, at different times so we hope anyone who would like to will be able to attend.   We offer mini-tennis (small court, small racquets, bigger balls) suitable for aged 4 and above. Under-12's should be supervised by an adult.  If you’d like your children to try mini-tennis, please contact us.   Touch Tennis is available for older children (bigger, slower balls).  Juniors taking coaching are required to be members but to encourage junior members our rates are low - please see our Membership page.  For junior coaching times please see our Coaching page.

Junior Tournaments

The club hosts an annual tournament for all members to enter and this isn't restricted to adults, we hold junior tournaments for red, orange green and yellow ball players, meaning children from as young as 4 get the opportunity to take part in competitive, but fun, matches.

Umpiring

We offer our older junior members the opportunity to umpire matches for the younger players, helping with scoring, making sure they know which side to serve from and checking if balls are in or out!  We encourage as many of our older junior players to take up this opportunity as it helps with their development and understanding the game and to be role models for our youngest players.

Plymouth & District Junior League

Every year we enter at least two teams in this league, which gives the opportunity for yellow ball players to take part in competitive matches, against players of similar age, from other tennis clubs in the local area.  The boys and girls play in mixed teams and take part in singles and doubles matches.  There are usually five or six teams in a division, playing home and away matches against each other. The matches run from April to July, usually on a Sunday morning.
