Club Rules

Here is some information you might need to know as a member of WPLTC.

The Committee Members are elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Club in March and aim to make the club a fun, social and safe place to belong to.

We have some rules and guidance - our Club Constitution and other relevant documents are held in the clubhouse and on the WPLTC website - https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/WooburnParkTennisClub Copies of the minutes of the Committee meetings are also held in the clubhouse (in the filing cabinet) and on the website.

We welcome contributions by members of the club, so if you have any suggestions or comments, please email wpltc@sky.com and these will be considered and responded to by the Committee.

We may not get it right all the time, so if there is a problem...maintenance issues can be written on the whiteboard in the clubhouse, and other issues can be brought to the attention, in writing, to the Chairman, davidalgar61@gmail.com stating the nature of the issue with any background details/dates.  For any safeguarding concerns, please see information posted in the clubhouse or on the website and contact the Club’s Welfare Officer, Ben Stevenson bcws@hotmail.co.uk

We look to all members, guests, and visitors to enjoy tennis and the facilities at WPLTC, there’s just a few things to remember…

  • Please be respectful of others on and off court, including observing court etiquette.
  • Enter the club site using the gate enter code and on leaving make sure that you leave all areas used clean and tidy, turn off any lights, lock doors and close the gate.
  • Please wear appropriate tennis attire which includes tennis shoes or trainers compatible with the court surface.
  • We ask that no chewing gum on the courts, we don’t want any sticky situations on court!
  • For enjoyment of all whilst on courts please do not use mobile phones or smart watches
  • We do welcome dogs on site, but not in the clubhouse or on court, and please keep on a lead.
  • WPLTC is a no smoking or vaping site.

We provide tennis balls for all play at the club!  Tennis balls for adult members are in the clubhouse in the cabinet drawer marked ‘Balls for Club Play’.  (Please don’t remove balls from the drawer marked ‘Match Play’, that would cause match day mayhem!).   We provide the balls, all we ask is that you return balls to the drawer after play and, if wet, please place in the white wire tray and follow the instructions for the heater, any already dry balls in the tray can be returned to the drawer.

Please bear in mind…although we replenish the tennis balls regularly, we cannot guarantee a ‘perfect’ set of balls every time, especially in the winter months, so if you do require perfection, please make sure you have a personal tube of balls for those occasions.

Enjoy your time on court, our Midweek membership has access to courts Monday to Friday up to 6pm, our Senior Membership has full all week access.  Just need to know that some court time is block booked for certain regular sessions, please see court allocation charts and match fixtures on the website/ posted in the clubhouse.

Ready to get on court, well here’s how to book a court.   Court booking is available at WPLTC to all our adult and junior members. This can be accessed at https://wpltc.skedda.com/booking.   You will need to set a login and password.  Once up and running, the rules of booking are as follows: -

  • You may book up to 7 days in advance.  Please bear in mind that you will see bookings made outside of this rule, this will be by designated administrators booking our home club matches, regular junior and adult group coaching sessions and club play sessions, as well as other ad hoc events, such as internal and external events, and tournaments. Club Coaches can book outside of this rule for coaching sessions, but not when it comes to peak booking times, they are in the 7-day rule with you for booking court times between 9am -11am and 6pm–8pm.
  • Maximum court booking time is 2 hours.
  • You may only book a court with your log in once every two days. This is to enable all members to gain the best access to courts.
  • If you want to play more than once every two days - please check the court bookings on skedda.com to see if there is availability. (Please be aware that someone may book in the time that you have taken to reach the club - please respect this).
  • If you have a court booked and no longer need it, you must cancel your booking on Skedda, so it is available for another member’s use.

We hope our allocated club play sessions  encourages social play with a turn up and mix in. If sessions are well attended, we ask that singles are only played when there are no members waiting and doubles is played as one short set with first to five games, this will help to get all attendees on court with as much play for all as possible.

At WPLTC we are lucky to have floodlight facilities, a few things to note…

  • All floodlight play is free, instructions for use are in the clubhouse.
  • Please note that you must only light the court(s) that are being played on
  • REMEMBER - All floodlit play must be finished by 10pm
  • Please ensure all lights are turned off at the end of your session – this bit is important….
  • the keys for the lights need to be turned back to the 12 o’clock position, if not they will come on in the morning, and that expense is not good for our club funds!

We offer coaching at WPLTC for our junior and adult members.  The club has qualified LTA licensed coaches.  Just so you know, coaching on club courts may only be carried out by the named personnel, with no coaching by members for commercial gain and no invited external coaches, unless with prior agreement by the Committee.

Adult members are welcome to bring a playing guest to the club.  As the club member you just need to make sure you enter the details in the visitors’ book held in the clubhouse and to make a £3 guest fee, via bank transfer (Lloyds Bank – Wooburn Park Lawn Tennis Club – Sort code 30-95-36 – Account number 02252021) or placing the fee in an envelope and popping it into the posting box in the clubhouse.

We do set a limit of a maximum of 5 visits per playing guest per membership year.

Want to play for the club teams?  WPLTC enter junior, ladies, men’s and veteran teams in Summer and Winter Leagues, if you want to share your interest in playing for a club team, please email Andrew Walker, Teams Captain on asj.walker@sky.com

Throughout the year the club organises various interclub tournaments for members, these are publicised, and members are invited to sign up to play.

We have social events both on and off the court and look forward to notifying you of these.

Our Junior Section

As a junior member you have access to courts up to 6pm during the week and at any time over the weekend.  You will be given a membership tag when you join the club, and like our adult members you will use the Skedda system for booking courts and need to note the same ‘rules of booking’ above. You are welcome in the clubhouse, but we do ask that this is only when adult members/parents are present.  You are also welcome to bring a playing guest once this is ok’d by one of our junior coaches.  For general play you have access to tennis balls from the bucket on the veranda.

For junior group coaching sessions see the Junior programme, our main weekly sessions take place on:

  • Saturday mornings from 9am to 1.15pm
  • Friday from 5pm to 7.15pm

Other small junior group coaching sessions take place during the week for specific levels and age groups and, as a club we hold Junior Tennis Camps during the Summer and Easter and Autumn half term breaks.

Please note our First Aid facilities     There are two first aid kits available, one on the veranda and the other in the kitchen area.  There is also a defibrillator in the club house by the door to the men’s toilet.  If any items are used or noted missing, then please notify Janet Jamieson on 07702 976850 or by email mandj77@btinternet.com

And to top it off we have WI-FI – provided for your use - the password is in the clubhouse on the main noticeboard.

We hope you enjoy your membership and tennis at WPLTC.
