Another warm finals’ day this year, and well attended despite the sad news a few days before. No girls’ entries and low numbers for the usually popular handicap mixed doubles, but otherwise a good spread. Thanks to my fellow umpires Jeremy Wood and Craig Amison-Smith and to Ali Hudson for most of the photos.
With neither adult singles champion being able to enter this year David Soanes took his opportunity in a pulsating final and picked up his tenth singles title, and Ella Ramsay turned round a heavy first set loss to win her first (of many?!) Will Taylor and Peter Browning found a way past the previously unbeaten pairing of Jeremy Wood and David Soanes in the Men’s Doubles and congratulations to Kathryn Schutterlin and Carolyn Tubby for their fifth consecutive Ladies. Daniel Gifford revenged his defeat to Alfie Ambler in the deciding champion’s tiebreak of their round robin stage match in the Boys’ Under 15 Singles by winning the same in a tense final under floodlights.
