Thank you to all concerned for getting all tournament matches played in the difficult circumstances we find ourselves in. I’ve not had to pin the draws up outside the clubhouse before! All but one of the finals were played on Finals’ Day and we were again extremely lucky that it was beautifully warm and sunny. The day was well attended to the (very bitter!) end.
Special mentions go to:
Anders Markvardsen and Ieuan Wyatt who in an earlier round played what may be our closest ever match since the introduction of tie-breaks: 5-7 7-6 7-6; Isla Smith for recording her first trophy; Max Waddup’s on form performance in the Men’s Plate final; 11 year old Ella Ramsay for not only reaching the final of the Girls’ Under 15s but also bravely entering the Ladies’ Singles; Simon Greenland’s children winning the award for those most wanting the men’s singles final to finish so they could use the court; and David Soanes who became the most successful player in the nearly 90 year history of the men’s singles with his ninth title. (Kathryn Schutterlin is already the most successful ladies singles and ladies doubles winner with 6 and now 14 titles respectively.)
