2025 Club Championships

Sunday 7th September saw the club's courts filled with both the seniors and juniors competitions finals, with plenty of spectators and home bakes to keep everyone going.

SENIORS

The singles finals were repeats of the 2024 competitions, with Erin Donald retaining the ladies trophy for the 3rd year, again beating Freya Ross in an excellent final. Grant McMurtie also retained his title in the men’s singles, beating Cluan Mardall in a high quality match, who put up some great resistance  before taking the runners up spot for the fourth year running. It took Andy Murray five grand slam finals before he won his first, so he's in good company! Zara Parkhill retained the ladies singles plate, winning against Keren Beveridge, whilst the men’s plate had a new winner, with Ross Davidson beating Iain Young.

In the doubles, Keren Beveridge partnered Hermione Bolland to beat Joss Marshall & Emma Bolland in a 3 setter in the ladies competition. Ross Grandison & Joss Marshall got the better of Harry Thomson & Pat Smith in straight sets in the mixed. Unfortunately illness meant Lewis Muirhead & Harry Thomson had to withdraw from the men’s doubles final, giving a walkover win to Cluan Mardall & Iain Young.

The winners have been added to the club’s roll of honour

JUNIORS

We had a fantastic Junior Club Championship competition on Sunday and it was lovely to see all our Juniors from ages 4 to 16 competing and really enjoying the day.  Many thanks also to their eager supporters for helping the day to run smoothly and for supporting our busy tea and hombake stall.

We started the day with our 14U which was an epic 4-hour battle which was eventually won by James Smith with Finlay Butters and Logan McCutcheon taking second and third respectively.  The 10U were up next, with some lovely long rallys, which was won by Brodie Butters with Thomas Adam-Owen and Nicholas Strachan taking the second and third places.

The 8U then joined us for a fun competition. The older 3 played a mini round robin with Hamish Wright scooping the big trophy from Noah Alimbayev and Hannah Kelly, who both put up a great display of red ball tennis. Our two youngest competitors Harry Kelly and Fraser Wright also had some great hits on court.

The 9U competition took us to the Orange Ball court and was a great battle between Arthur Abrahams, Zachary Thomson and Callum Whitfield, and we had some lovely long rallies with great sportsmanship on display; Arthur just pipping Zachary and Callum to take the final trophy.

The 12U competition was a lovely display of junior yellow ball tennis completed, in great spirits, and won by Freddie Abrahams with Brodie Butters as runner up

The day finished with a fantastic display of tennis by our 16U boys and girls with cracking serves, long rallies and nail biting tiebreaks. It was great for all our younger juniors to watch and admire.  The 16U boys champion is Harry Dempster with Finlay Butters as runner up and our 16U girls champion is Abigail Ross with Freya Ross as runner up.

A massive congratulations to all our winners and competitors. We really hope you enjoyed the day and are very much looking forward to seeing you at our next Junior competition.
