New Courts

Alveley Tennis Club has two brand new courts for our members to enjoy. To celebrate the achievement we held an Open Morning for members and local groups who have kindly donated grants to assist us in the enterprise. About 40 adults and children came to the event and Head Coach Richard Wheeler, ran on court sessions for all who wished to join him. No one was deterred by the rain, which eventually eased off!
Our team, who led on the project, were Chairman Bob Higgins, Treasurer Roger Brown and Project Manager Roger Whitworth. Our special thanks go to Alveley Parish Council, The Whittall Meadows Trust and Howard Thompson Bequest who provided invaluable support from the local community and to Tennis Shropshire who provided assistance from the sporting governing body. Bob Kerr, Chairman of Tennis Shropshire cut the ribbon to officially open the Courts.
This has been a huge project for a small village club. The club began in the 1960s by cutting a grass area on the Alveley Recreation Ground to make their first tennis court. As well as two beautiful new courts, the clubhouse has been improved with a new facade, sponsored by local businesses. From here, we hope to attract more new members and more juniors to join the coaching sessions. Our thanks to all who were involved and visited the Open Morning, also for the delicious cakes and coffee which were served by members.
