Big Week for Alveley Tennis Club

With the weather turning to something that resembles Summer, it's been a great week for Alveley Tennis Club.

First up, last Saturday night, our quiz team consisting of Ben, Julian, Neil, and Colin dominated the Alveley Village Quiz, scoring a tremendous 100 points out of a possible 125 to secure the win for a third straight year, and for the fourth time out of five since the quiz resumed in 2022. With so many new active members at our club, it might be possible to put forward two teams next year and turn it into a true battle royale, whilst of course raising more money for worthy charities, which is what the quiz is really all about.

Then, on Tuesday night, Chairman Ben and new Membership Secretary Jen attended an event hosted by Alveley Parish Council where we were able to speak to local people as representatives of the Tennis Club and raise awareness of our presence in the community. Ben was also able to report to the Parish Council's AGM about the successes the Club has had in recent years, with a threefold increase in membership and improved facilities courtesy of a grant provided by the Council.

One of the things our representatives were able to talk about at this meeting was the success of our pickleball drive. Since we introduced the sport to our Club in January, we have seen 7 new members sign up primarily to play pickleball, and many other potential members have come down to our trial sessions, with plenty of laughs and fun as we all learn the sport together. This is a great result for us, and something we hope to continue to build on as we enter the prosperous Summer months.

Lastly, our regular tennis social sessions, which are now running on four different days every week, have been fantastic this week, with the return of a bit of sunshine bringing out the joy of the sport for everyone. Let's hope the beautiful weather continues and all of us at Alveley Tennis Club have a wonderful Summer!
