Meet our head coach David Anderson

About David

David first got involved in sports coaching voluntarily with Active Schools in 2009 in which he delivered an after-school basketball session at his old primary school in Alyth. Later that year he also started delivering tennis in the village and has not looked back!

Studying at Dundee & Angus College allowed David to obtain his HND Coaching & Developing Sport qualification which then allowed him direct entry to 3rd year at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen studying BSc(Hons) Applied Sport & Exercise Science.

His studies at College & University not only gave David a deeper understanding of coaching theories and practical applications, but it also opened up doors to new coaching opportunities including a two week trip to Sweden in 2013 to teach P.E. at schools across Stockholm and to also teach tennis at the Djursholms Tennisklubb.

David has a worked at numerous clubs across Scotland and worked alongside some top coaches to help develop his own delivery style. He prides himself in setting up new sporting opportunities for all ages and loves the challenge of working with sports clubs to rapidly grow the number of players taking part in sport at their venue.

Career Highlights

Rattray Tennis Club

"One of my proudest achievements was in 2014 when I created a programme to bring junior tennis players back to Rattray Tennis Club. As head coach of Rattray, I was able to bring the first juniors to the club since 2002 and re-establish the junior club championships"

Forthill Community Tennis Club

"Pop-up Tennis Forfar

"During the first months of 2021, some of my players were unable to travel to Forthill for their classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic so I took the tennis to them!

Each Wednesday I would travel up to Steele Park in Forfar with a pop-up net, some rackets, balls, and court marking lines. The ground was uneven and the dogs in the park kept on stealing the tennis balls, but these are some of the most fun sessions I have delivered as I had to think on my feet to work with the limited space we had, the players also had to adapt to some very interesting ball bounces!
