Selection Criteria

In order for players to be considered for selection and re-selection onto the training programme, they must demonstrate the desire and ability to consistently meet both the behaviour and performance standards that will contribute positively to a focused, high energy, competitive and purposeful training environment.

As this is a team environment where everyone is striving to be their best, high standards will be expected at all times in order to maximise development. It will be encouraged for all players and parents to support one another to uphold these standards.

Behaviour Standards

  • Abide by the Code of Conduct
  • Bring positive energy to the court through high intensity and focus
  • Be coachable with an open mindset to development and feedback
  • Demonstrate the Values of ownership, integrity and resilience
  • Embrace the Beliefs of hard work and a growth mindset
  • Accept, reflect and respond positively to all consequences

Performance Standards

  • Commit to excel at the Basics at every opportunity
  • Develop tactical, technical, physical and psychological performance
  • Perform consistently during training to a competitive standard
  • Apply process goals during training and competition for long-term development

Requirements of Parents

  • Support their child to uphold the behaviour and performance standards
  • Trust the process and respect all decisions and consequences
  • Booking and payment for the full term must be made in advance of attendance

Consequences

It is crucial that players take ownership of their behaviour and performance with full commitment to meeting the standards. There will be consequences for players not meeting the standards and there will be no compromise. Players and parents who seek to be involved with the performance programme do so on this understanding.

Consequences:

  1. Any time a player fails to meet the standards, they will receive fitness. Not committing to the fitness or arguing with the coach will result in extra fitness.
  2. If, in the same session, a player continues to consistently fail to meet the standards and shows no effort to acknowledge, accept and/or respond positively, they will sit out for the remainder of the session and the parents will be notified.
  3. If, over multiple sessions, a player is consistently failing to meet the standards to the detriment of the other players and/or they are unwilling to work positively with the coach, they risk being removed from the performance programme.

Parents of players will have ongoing open lines of communication so they and the player will know if they are falling short in any of these areas.

Assessment Process

Each player on the performance programme will receive feedback with an end of term report (Autumn, Spring & Summer), reflecting on their behaviour, performance and progress towards achieving their process and outcome goals.

The selection process for acceptance onto the academy programme will be reviewed on a termly basis, evaluating which players will be accepted onto the programme and carefully selecting the appropriate squads for each player. The decision-making process will be made by Cameron Malik and the Tennis Manager of Warwick Boat Club. Players will be prioritised based on their behaviour, performance, commitment and aspirations. Not all criteria weigh the same when making decisions and considerations relating to limiting factors will be taken into account. Players and parents must respect all decisions made and for the avoidance of doubt, there will be no appeals process.
