Parents in Sport Week 4th – 10th October

The LTA have arranged for Parents in Sport Week (4th – 10th October) and the aim of this national campaign is to empower parents with the confidence, knowledge and tools they need to identify and report concerns in their children’s sports; they are supporting this through their established Competition Parenting Workshop, which includes information on keeping children safe in our sport. In addition to this, there will be a number of additional sessions, including two evening Q&A panels with the parents of current tour players Andy and Jamie Murray, Joe Salisbury and Jodie Burrage. The families of these elite players (a mix of Grand Slam champions and up and coming young tour professionals) have a great deal of experience to share when it comes to all areas of tennis, whether it be deciding on which education route to take, managing injuries as a young player, or the sacrifices involved in helping your child reach their potential.

All of the information and booking links are available on www.lta.org.uk/parents

Parent Support Programme

Parents play a pivotal role in sport and young people depend heavily on their involvement, support and encouragement.

The LTA work closely with Sports Psychology experts from Loughborough University and the University of Roehampton to offer a progressive parent support programme that provides advice and guidance to parents nurturing the next generation of players.

Stage one is aimed at parents whose children are just beginning their competitive journey and features a ‘Start Competing’ guide and a series of short videos. Stage two is an informative two hour workshop aimed at the parents of players aged 9-14 years-old who are competing regularly and stage three is an informative resource to help parents develop their child’s mental and emotional skills.
