Blackhall Tennis Club in the Community

BLTC is a registered Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC). One of the reasons for this change in 2013 was in essence to establish that the club would always remain as a tennis club and always belong to the people of Blackhall.

The club is committed to working in the community and has provided free coaching to Blackhall Primary School over the last ten years. We extended our community program in 2019 to include free taster tennis sessions for the Brownies, Rainbows, Cubs and Beavers based at St Columba’s Church. We also set up tennis sessions for Adults and Children within the community to give the adults an idea in how to encourage their children to take up the game.

The club has been fortunate over the last few years in working with the Blackhall Sports Day committee to further the take up of sports in the area. The club has always appreciated their support and has consistently offered Family Tennis Memberships as raffle prizes to assist in their fund raising. We have also supported the Sports committee by running tennis taster sessions at the park on sports day. Other groups in the community have also been backed by the club with raffle prizes which as well as Free Family Memberships has included coaching sessions with our club coach. We are part of the community and will continue to help initiatives that help other sectors in our area.

In 2020 our plans for community work had to be curtailed due to Covid restrictions. This year 2021 we offered the Community groups of Cubs, Brownies, Rainbows and Beavers taster tennis sessions within the parameters we were allowed to work in which was limited.

We hope to run a shortened program with Blackhall Primary School later in the year if it can be fitted into Government Guidelines. We are optimistic that in 2022 we can get back to expanding our community program. Our membership has grown through lockdown and more people are looking to play tennis which is fantastic.

We are currently looking to set up a ‘retirement tennis’ section to encourage some of the elder members of the community to get involved in our sport and are always looking at new ideas that can facilitate local activity.
