Doubles Box Leagues

The doubles box league is now in full flow

BLTC Doubles Box League Rules

1. Overview

By taking part in the league, all players agree that their contact details will be shared with the other players in the league.

Each round of the box league lasts about one month. If there is a significant amount of bad weather, the round may be extended.

Players enter as an individual and are allocated into groups of four in a divisional structure. This will usually (but not always) be a mixed group.

The top person in the group is responsible for contacting the other 3 players to organise a mutually convenient time to play the groups 3 set match and to book a court. All 3 sets, 1 set with each player in your group, are played in one session.

If one person in the group is unable to play before the deadline (for example due to injury), you can still play using a substitute of your own choice. The scoring system will stay the same, but the substitutes scores will not count. The person not able to play will be relegated to the division below.

Between the group players must provide reasonable standard balls and pay for floodlights.

Occasionally adjustments to positions may be necessary due to players dropping out of the league, or new players entering.

Your score is based on the number of sets won as an individual player.

If players are tied on sets: total the number of games for each player (games won minus games lost) to decide positions. In the event of a tie on games, a tie break to 7 should be played with the tied players on opposing sides – see example results section below.

2. Match Format

  • 3 sets, one with each player.
  • Standard 7 point tie break played if the score reaches 6 games all.
  • Further 7 point tie break if any players are tied - see below.

In the event of a tie a 7 point tie break should be played with the tied players on opposing sides - spin rackets or toss a coin for partners.

3. Submitting results

The winning player should submit the results to jctennis48@gmail.com

Please make sure your results are emailed as soon as possible after the end of the match.
