Social Tournaments
Our next two social tournaments will be held on Saturday 9th August (tomorrow!) and Saturday October 11th These are fun tournaments open to all Full or equivalent (Student, 18-25, 26-30) members. All standards welcome, as it is handicapped. No need to book, just turn up. The fun starts at 1pm. See you on court.

Race Night Saturday 16th August @ 7.30pm (note revised start time)
This is the last chance to buy tickets for our Race Night. Open to friends and family too. This time we will be serving home-made soup and stotties! Tickets are £6 each. Bring your own drinks and come and have a flutter. (Bring cash for your bets.) For tickets email us at boldon.ltc@outlook.com as soon as possible and pay your money into the usual bank account with the reference Race Night. We need a few more tickets sold for this event to go ahead. Good Luck!

Don Maxwell’s funeral
For those of you wishing to pay your respects to Don and his family, the funeral is on Wednesday 20th August, 11.15am at South Shields Crematorium, and afterwards at Boldon Golf Club.

New courts and funding implications
As you know, courts 1, 2 and 3 are being renewed next month. What you may not know is that they are costing £63,000 and that all the money has come from our own resources: i.e your fees, a couple of legacies and social events organised by the Funcom. We haven’t had any grants or loans to help us. Once that money is spent, our bank account will be looking very sorry for itself and we have to start saving again for future improvements.

“How can I help?” I hear you say. Here is a list of some of the things that you can do to support the club: (Some won’t cost you anything, or very little.)

  • The obvious one: pay your fees on time!
  • Join our Boldon Lottery (BoTL). This costs 50p per week paid as a 4 weekly direct debit, and you could win £25 per week or £100 every quarter. This raises around £1300 per year.
  • Register with Easy Fundraising. This will cost you nothing! Every time you shop online, if you go through Easy Fundraising, which is just a couple of extra clicks before you shop, you can raise money for the club. We raise on average £63 per quarter with 61 supporters (a total of almost £1600 since we started). Can you help us raise more?
  • Come to our social events! The next one is our Race Night next Saturday (details above) but we may have to cancel if we don’t get a few more people to come. Our social events raised almost £3000 last year. Please let us know if you have any ideas which may prove popular and we will consider them all.
  • We sell our old tennis balls to dog walkers at £4 for 10. Let your dog-owning friends know. This raised almost £500 last year.
  • We sell clubwear with our logo on and optional initials. Check out the page on our website to see if there’s anything you fancy.
  • Know anyone with a business? They may wish to advertise around our courts. So far we have raised £300 this year.
  • There is also the opportunity to hire the clubhouse for events. Price on application
  • Donate raffle prizes. You don’t have to wait until an actual event, (although the next big event is the Awards Night in October).
  • Buy (and sell to family and friends) raffle tickets for our Summer Draw, now available! £1 each and we have some great prizes.
