East of Scotland League matches 2022 season Week 6-10

Here is Suzie's final report for this year.

Week 10

1st team (Div 1): Braid 1sts finished in style with a 12-1 win over Mortonhall (Home), celebrating with a night out in town last night! This means Braid have not lost a match all season, winning 106 out of the 128 sets played. Amazing work, ladies! The team tease me for being interested in the stats but I will just say we all dominated the leader board in the player stats :-)

Final position: 1

Pic taken last week (L-R): Juliet Smith, Heather Croll, Mhairi Beattie, Lisa Campbell, Suzie Provan, Alice Drysdale. A big shout out to those who also played at various times but are not in the pic.....Sophia Okusawa, Marianna Van Orden, Sophie Black.

2nd team (Div 2): Braid 2nd's lost 5-8 to Waverley who have won the division. Well done to the team though who have stayed in the division 2 which is great :-)

Final position: 4

3rd team (Div 3A): A tough end to the season for the 3's with an 11-1 loss to second place Lomond Park who had a strong team out. There were good games and an enjoyable end to the season. Big thanks to those who played up, especially Kerry Connor who stepped in at the last minute.

Final position: 4

4th team (Div 5B):  The fourth’s last match of the season was against Hatton who were the top team of our league. We lost 2-10 but had a great evening.  Thanks to Claire and Sally who stepped up to play in our last match.  Thank you to all the players and supporters over the last 10 weeks -iIt’s been a great summer of tennis. We came in third in the league (just pipped at the post by Corstorphine who had a few more games than us).  We stay in Div 5 - a great performance having moved up last year.  Well done ladies. Thanks for the great suppers you provided (we got the credit for being most hospitable team....see pic!!)  It’s been a privilege to captain you! We’ve been a happy team, always smiling even in defeat.

Final position: 3

Can I just also reiterate Anne's comments around thanking the supporters - we really do appreciate those who come out to watch :-)

Well done also to the captains.....Janine Frew, Sue Valente/Amy Allen, Anne Nash....have a well earned summer break, ladies!

Not such great news for the Mens' Teams as Eugene reports here:

DUNLOP EAST OF SCOTLAND MEN’S LEAGUE 2022

(Week 10)

Men’s First Team (Division 1)

The Men’s 1st team lost 10 -3 away to Blackhall 1.  This result is the subject of investigation by ESLTA as it is alleged Blackhall played two ineligible players.

Final position: to be determined

Men’s Second Team (Division 2)

The Men’s 2nd team lost 12-0 at home to Dunfermline 1.

Final position: 6th (Relegated)

Men’s Third Team (Division 5B)

The Men’s 3rd team lost 10-3 away to Meadows City 2.

Final position: 5th (Relegated)

Men’s Fourth Team (Division 8B)

The Men’s 4th team were beaten 11-2 by Dean 2.

Final position: 6th (Relegated)

Sadly, a very disappointing year for the men’s teams. It was a difficult season all round given that we had to play up so many players each week which meant that we were unable to play our strongest third and fourth teams.  The captains would like to thank all those who played for the Club during the season. A special word of thanks to Andy White, 4th team captain who was left with the unenviable task virtually each week of ensuring that we were able to field four teams.

It's congratulations to the Ladies 1st Team who this week secured first place in Division 1.  Well done all.

Week 9

1st team (Div 1): The 1st team beat Thistle (Home) 12-0, meaning they have officially WON the league!!! :-) :-) :-) A huge well done to all players!!! All matches won so far this season, and we hope to finish off in style against Mortonhall this Tuesday.

2nd team (Div 2): Our 2nd team won 10-4 away at Colinton.

3rd team (Div 3A): Our thirds had a very close match this week, but lost to Merchiston 1's 9-6 in the sweltering heat.

4th team (Div 5B): A frustrating loss for the 4th team this week, succumbing to North Berwick 6-7. Regrettably, this means we are unable to be promoted this year. On the plus side, it was a beautiful evening and great tennis.

DUNLOP EAST OF SCOTLAND MEN’S LEAGUE 2022

LADIES Week 8

1st team (Div 1): Another great win for the firsts this week (9-4), away to Dunfermline. They are always a steady and tricky team to play, but we did well and got the result in a lovely warm summer's evening :-)

2nd team (Div 2): Braid 2 played at home to a very strong and young Hatton team. The tennis was great and the weather fantastic. Although we lost 12-1, we had many close matches with four very tight tie breaks which were unfortunately lost.

3rd team (Div 3A): The 3's travelled to Waverley and battled some hard fought matches on a beautiful evening in lovely surroundings. In the end the points were shared with a 6-6 draw which seems to show how close our division is just now.

4th team (Div 5B): It was a big match for Braid 4 at home against Corstorphine 1 this week who were sitting top of the table. Corstorphine had won the away leg and the team were keen to even things out on home turf. The team pulled out all the stops and battled hard for an 8-7 victory. Thanks to everyone who played and to Gary and David for coming down to support the team.

The Men’s 4th team lost 12-0 away to Craigmillar Park 2.

LADIES Week 7

1st team (Div 1): Braid 1sts continued their winning streak with a 12-0 win over North Berwick. It was an away match so a wonderful chance to play at their beautiful venue.

2nd team (Div 2): Braid 2's also secured a bagel win, 12-0, against Drummond.

3rd team (Div 3A): Unfortunately the 3’s lost 5-8 to Dyvours this week. There were lots of tight games and sets though, and it was good tennis all round. On another night it could have been a totally different score, it was that tight.

4th team (Div 5B): The 4’s played away to Drummond, winning 10-3 against an incredibly friendly team. The matches were played in good spirits, the Drummond club members clapped a good shot whoever played it, and the match tea was brilliant. Quite simply one of the nicest matches the fourths have been involved in :-)

Well done, ladies! Overall, another great week.

LADIES Week 6

In the week of the Platinum Jubilee here are the results from the Ladies Matches

1st team (Div 1): A very convincing 12-1 win against Blackhall this week, keeping Braid firmly at the top of the table. We are on course to win the league this year, but we won't take anything for granted, and keep pressing on.

2nd team (Div 2): A 9-5 win against Barnton Park for the seconds this week.

3rd team (Div 3A): A win against Musselburgh away for the 3’s this week, 10-2, moves us up to 3 in the table. Go Braid!

4th team (Div 5B): The fours were feeling the pressure after our other ladies’ teams all won on Tuesday, so we were delighted to complete the clean sweep with an 8-5 win over Kirkcaldy. We even had a jubilee celebration cake to mark the day!

Well done to all this week!
