About us
In the spring of 1962 an approach was made to a local resident by the Brighstone School Headmaster for the use of their private tennis court. The owner kindly agreed to allow the court to be used by the school and local Community. The seed was sown! For the next two years the court was used until the surface deteriorated. However, a grass court at a farm in neighbouring Mottistone village became available. and tennis continued, but the task of marking the court each time became too arduous and when offered th use of the court at Brighstone Holiday Camp players jumped at the chance!
August 16th 1979 saw Brighstone Lawn Tennis Club officialy formed and a move to the recreation ground where we continue to enjoy our tennis to this day. Much fundraising was done and the courts were officially laid in August 1981 and in 1985 a mammoth fundraising effort brought us our clubhouse which was made by local master craftsman Archie Trickett. In addition we were able to support the new Isle of Wight Bodyscanner and supply a defibrillator to Solent Coastguard.
The club has continued to have a good following and members have enjoyed some good sport on our hard courts.
Plans to hopefuly improve and expand our facilities further are being discussed with the Parish Council - so watch this space !
