Broughton Tennis Club has adhered to the LTA regulations and requirements on safeguarding policy, risk assessments and privacy policy. 

WELLBEING IN TENNIS 

Tennis is a fun outdoor and inclisve sport, however, you may findn there are situations which have a negative impact on your wellbeing. Here are some topics below which could affect you and advice on how to deal with some issues which you may face whilst playing tennis:

Bullying in tennis 
Bullying is unwanted, agrresive intimidating behavior that can be in serveral forms: 

  • Verbal bullying - saying negative or mean things eg name calling. 
  • Social bullying - hurting someone's reputation or relationships with other people, or spreading rumours.
  • Physical bullying - hurting a persons body or posssesions. 

Bullying is wrong in any area of life and we do not condone it. If you feel someone is bullying you do not deal with it alone and tell someone you trust. Bullying i snegative behavior which can make you feel not very good about yoursel, so it is important to try and stay positive. Mistreatment in Tennis 
There are different types of mistreatment or abuse that occur in life, inclusing in a tennis environment. If you find someone is being abusive to you, you should report them immmediatley to an adult you trust.
These are the types of abuse and some examples that could occur in tennis:

  • Verbal abuse: eg someone calling you names when you dont play well.
  • Emotional: eg someone giving you the silent treatment when you dont win.
  • Physical: eg someone hitting tennis balls at you. 
  • Neglect: eg being left alone at a tennis ocurt all day. 
  • Sexual abuse: eg someone touching you in an innapropriate manner. 

Another common issue you people can have is inapproprtaite contact from adults. If you find an adult is being overly friendly, please tell another adult you trust.

Abuse is nevr ok, please dont deal with it aone. 

People you can report abuse to are:

  • Parents, coaches, teachers, club welfare officer or other adults you trust. 
  • Childline - online throughthrough their website or by phone on 0800 111
  • Police - call 101 or 999 if it is an emegency. 
  • LTA Safeguarding Team - calling 020 8487 7000, emailing safeguarding@lta.org.uk or online via the Register a complaint form 

Discrimination in Tennis

Tennis can be a great way to boost your mood, taking your mind off your worries and providing an opportunity to socialise and boost confidence. It is recognise that tennis is  predominantly and individual sport and playing in competitions with added expectations from friends and family can cause pressure. Tennis and mental health
Tennis can often feel like a singles sport, particulalry if you are a singles player. This can lead to players experienceing loneliness due to the potential pressures feeling like they fall on one person. 
Tennis can also be a great remedy to feeling low, as it can take your mind off worries, give you an opportunity to socialise and get in th eoutdoors.
