Health And Safety Policy
This policy should be read in conjunction with Buriton Tennis Club (BTC) other policies including the Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.
BTC is committed to ensuring the health and safety of its members, visitors, guests and contractors whilst on court. The Club expects members to share this commitment and to be aware of and mitigate hazards. Members will inform the Committee of any concerns.
The Management Committee will:
• Have Health and Safety on the standard agenda of the regular meetings and undertake risk assessment reviews in order to assess and prevent incidents and accidents.
• Review the accident reports at Committee meetings to consider arising issues and discuss possible mitigation and prevention of these issues.
• Provide and maintain safe facilities and equipment.
• Maintain a safe court environment for members and visitors
• Provide a first aid kit.
Responsibilities
Overall, responsibility for Health and Safety in respect of the Club is vested in the Club’s Management Committee.
However, members, visitors, guests need to take reasonable care of their own health and safety while on club premises. If at any time there are any health or safety concerns these should be reported to the Management Committee.
Safe behaviours are outlined in the Code of Conduct Policy.
Appropriate footwear must be worn on court.
Club members should not play or attend training sessions at the Club if they have been advised not to do so by a medical professional.
Members should be aware that Covid-19 remains a serious health concern and should not play or attend if they have or suspected infection.
Courts
• BTC will be responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and repair of fixed and portable equipment. Courts will be checked prior to commencement of matches, tournaments and mix-in sessions.
• BTC will be responsible for ensuring court surfaces and surrounds are safe and properly maintained.
• Any damage will be made safe as soon as is practically possible and repairs undertaken.
• Members and visitors will be advised if courts are unsafe and informed of any potential hazards
e.g. adverse weather conditions, debris, moss on playing surfaces
• Any potential maintenance issues should be referred to the Club Management Committee.
Accident and Incident Reporting
Details of accidents and incidents to be recorded via a member of the Management Committee. Details of the contact details can be found on the club notice board, also see Key Contacts below. If a junior is involved then the parent or guardian will be informed immediately.
First Aid
BTC is aware of its obligations to members and visitors regarding health and safety but if any injury gives cause for concern the appropriate emergency service must be contacted.
The First Aid box is located in the bench seating between the two courts and is monitored and maintained by the committee.
A defibrillator is available and located adjacent to the Nest Public House.
Risk Assessment
Assessment of the facility will be regularly reviewed by the Management Committee and discussed at committee meetings. Members and visitors are also responsible for health and safety and any concerns are to be referred to a member of the Management Committee. Coaches and members to have access to information relating to health and safety.
