Cambourne Lawn Tennis Club: Open Day 2022 – Thank you

Thank you all those who attended the Cambourne Lawn Tennis Open day on Sunday 17th July which was sponsored by Leadpal. It was an extremely hot day so a special thank you to parents who covered their children with Sunblock and brought them out to the event for coaching with Toby Jackson and Emily Stephenson.

Along with the Tri Tennis & Tennis Ping Pong, we were thrilled that Wheelchair tennis player, Sports broadcaster and ICU World Champion Gemma Stevenson championed our wheelchair event – Thank you Gemma. It was also a pleasure to see youngsters and adults alike strapping themselves into the tennis adapted wheelchairs and having a go! It doesn’t look easy and it’s not as easy as it looks!

Another favourite was visually impaired tennis which had 2 settings – Extremely Difficult and – Near on Impossible. For option 1 participants wore goggles which impaired visibility and attempted to play with a tennis ball with a bell in it. In option 2 participants were blindfolded and were completely dependent upon their hearing. A shout out to those who managed to hit the ball at all (Well done Irette, who was exceptionally good at it!) – A big thank you to Steve Shaw (Cambridgeshire LTA Inclusion Officer) for the equipment, the guidance, and the opportunity!
