NPL - Super Sunday

This week’s NPL fixture saw our men’s team face Southampton. The team consisted of regulars Alex Hyman and Evan Kennedy, who played together as the first pair, and head coach Mike Castle and junior Conor Evans, who played as the second pair.

Mike and Conor started with a convincing win against Southamptons second pairing, as they took the victory 6-3 6-1. Based on their almost perfect performance, you would not have guessed that this was the first match they had ever played together!

Alex and Evan, who play together in their midweek BUCS fixtures, won their first match 6-1 6-3. Even though Southampton’s pairing played very well in the second set, Alex and Evan were able continue playing confidently and closed it out quite quickly.

In the second round of matches, Mike and Conor lost a very tight match against Southampton’s first pairing 6-4 6-1. The dramatic first set could have gone either way but sadly our men just fell short in the end.

Alex and Evan, on the other hand, were able to take another very convincing victory, not letting their opposition have a single game as they won 6-0 6-0! This meant that Cardiff Met won the tie 3 matches to 1 and can hope to move up the table very soon.

We thank junior, Conor Evans for playing with us this week as he is a great addition to the team when we are suffering from some injuries elsewhere in the squad. Also, to our fantastic head coach Mike Castle who put in a great couple of performances in the tie.

Congratulations to Alex and Evan for continuing their doubles winning streak, putting their consecutive tally to 5! And more importantly, congratulations to the team for another great victory!
