Oratory Grass Court Tournament

24 players made the short trip to Woodcote on Sunday afternoon (June 29th) to embrace the unique charm and challenge of grass court tennis. In hot and muggy conditions, play got under way with everyone tentatively adapting to the unfamiliar environment. Actually, the bounces were higher than many of us expected, owing to the unusually dry weather. After two and a half hours of riveting men's and women's round robin competition, the group winners competed in a mixed doubles final with Ali and Craig prevailing against Elaine and Paul. Unfortunately, time constraints meant that there were no post-match interviews, no expert analysis, etc… and, sadly, no official photos! But the Wimbledon theme tune played and there were strawberries & cream washed down with Robinsons Barley Water, all perfectly synonymous with the English grass court experience. We're hoping to repeat the event in 2026!
