Play

The club runs social tennis sessions throughout the week where members of all levels can come along and play in a relaxed and fun environment. For the more competitive players there are singles box leagues, club competitions and team practice sessions where you can improve your game and test yourself against players of similar ability. You can also make your own arrangements to play by means of our website booking module. Please note: a guest fee of £4 is payable if you bring a non-member to play (max 3 times).

If you're feeling bored, in need of a spark,
And other sports haven't quite hit the mark,

You'll find it right here -
Come and play tennis at Caversham Park!

Club Sessions

The club runs 5 very popular club sessions throughout the week providing members with the opportunity to mix in and play social tennis with players of all abilities. They take place as follows:

  • Tuesdays from 6pm
  • Wednesdays from 10am
  • Thursdays from 6pm
  • Saturdays from 12pm
  • Sundays from 10am

Balls are provided. Committee members (and/or long-standing playing members) are usually on hand to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible. Typically, the format is doubles play - players make up fours as they arrive and play a full set (tie-break at 5-5 ) and then mix into new groups of four. Short sets (first to 4 games, tie-break at 3-3) may be played if people are waiting.

The club also offers supervised 'Rusty Rackets' sessions for players who want to build their confidence before taking part in the regular sessions. They take place on Monday evenings (6-7.30pm). Please click here for further details.

Teams

The club is well represented in the Berkshire leagues with 13 teams in the mens/ladies/mixed/vets doubles along with teams in the National League (singles & doubles) and the Youth League.

If you would like to play matches for the club then please contact TSC (the Team Selection Committee) and we can arrange to assess your standard and find the best fit for you. We use Team App to manage team selection. Simply download the app to your smartphone to receive notifications for upcoming matches and indicate your availability.

There is a match practice session on Mondays from 7.30-9pm. Whilst it’s not obligatory to attend every match practice in order to be selected, we do ask that people try and make 1 or 2 sessions in order to let us make the best selection decisions we can. If you are unable to make the match practice sessions, then just email TSC to let us know, and we will look at other ways to make a fair assessment of your standard. This will typically take into account performances in club sessions, singles box league competition and the club tournament. Selection is principally merit-based, but we aim to be as inclusive as possible and a policy of player rotation may be adopted in respect of certain teams.

Juniors

Tuck ShopThe Club provides excellent opportunities for minis and juniors to enjoy and develop their tennis. The programme includes a free coach-led session for minis (4-5pm) and juniors (5-6pm) every Tuesday throughout the summer months (apart from a break during the school summer holidays). The session for minis features a tuck shop and a 'Stay and Play' session for parents (even the rustiest of rackets are most welcome!). There are also singles box leagues, an annual tournament and the chance to represent the club in external competition.

As part of our safeguarding policy, we prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children taking part in activities at the club. We've adopted the LTA and NSPCC recommendations that all junior and mini members under the age of 13 playing on the club’s courts must be supervised by a parent or guardian or, in certain circumstances, another suitable adult.

Annual Club Tournament

Throughout the summer months, knockout tournament matches take place.

The events (mens and ladies singles/doubles, veterans and mixed) all culminate in a finals day played in front of a supportive crowd, where members can watch the final contests and enjoy a bbq and refreshments.

Fun Tournaments

The club also organises a number of fun tournaments throughout the year.  Catering for all levels of abilities, these events are a fun way to enjoy tennis, and they typically feature a great spread of food and drinks!

Singles Box League

We are currently running a Box League singles competition. It's open to all playing members of the club and it offers the more competitive players an opportunity to compete against members of a similar level. Results count towards the new 'World Tennis Number' rating system.

If you would like to enter, please email cptctournaments@gmail.com.

Players compete in their own time and arrange their own matches. Please note that by requesting to join, you are consenting to your phone number being made available to other members.

Free Play

Although there are a lot of organised activities, there is plenty of court time available via the booking module.
