Jersey's Vets Tennis Teams both proved too strong at this weekend's Inter-Insular tournaments.
This year it was the turn of the Over 55s to play in Jersey at the Caesarean Club. Guernsey had held the Over 55s title for several years but this year the reds managed to turn the tide... After the Men's and Ladies' Doubles matches the tie was evenly poised at 2-2, meaning everything would rest on the four Mixed Doubles matches. With Guernsey holding the trophy, they needed to win only two matches to retain, whilst Jersey needed to win three to claim back the title.
With the crucial match heading into a Champions Tie Break, Guernsey had a match point at 10-9, but eventually it was Jersey who won 12-10, winning the match and the trophy for Jersey.
Across the water in Guernsey, the Over 45s teams were battling it out at the Guernsey Tennis Centre. Despite some close matches with a number of crucial tie-breaks played, Jersey were leading 6-2 after the Men's and Ladies' Double matches. The Mixed was a closer affair with the scores at 2-2, leaving Jersey with an overall win by 8-4.
