LTA 14U Tennis Matchplay
On Sunday Guernsey’s Junior Tennis players were back in action, many of them fresh from victory in the Inter-Insular last weekend. The Guernsey Tennis Centre held a 14 and Under LTA Youth Matchplay event which saw 8 boys and 4 girls compete in a singles tournament with some added fun mixed doubles matches played at the end of the day.
Once again, the strength in Guernsey Junior Tennis was shown with many of the younger players putting in exceptional performances against their older opponents.
In the boy’s singles there were some close matches, notably by Rory Dorfner who took the first set against Emile Curle playing solidly from the back of the court but ultimately lost in a champions tiebreak once Emile found his stride. In the most entertaining match of the day Danny Conchar (aged 11) took on eventual winner Rupert Dorey. Danny’s good serve and willingness to run after every ball made for some exciting points, however Rupert’s age and experience allowed him to take the match.
In the final Luca Robertson who is in form and playing extremely well, made Rupert Dorey work for the victory.
In the girls draw it was 12 year old Chloe De La Mare who dominated the field beating Amelie Clark 4-2, 4-0 in the Final. Following on from her impressive performance for the U18 Team at the Inter-Insular last weekend, Chloe’s powerful hitting and accuracy proved too much for Amelie.
