We are a friendly club that welcomes players of all ages and abilities, from beginner to the more competitive player.
There is an active social side with fun events and barbecues, making full use of our attractive secluded setting and new club house. We have floodlights which enable tennis to be played all year round.
We also run several social sessions for men, ladies, juniors and mixed groups to play together and have a close link with Amherst Primary School.
We have several adult teams entered in the Kent leagues and a wide and varied junior programme with some competing at county level.
Led by our environment committee member, Tom Robinson, a small band of diggers planted two lines of hedge saplings along the whole line of the fence on the left side of the club as you look out from the clubhouse. Tom said ”It will look fantastic when it begins to grow, and it will provide a great habitat for the local wildlife.” The hedge will be a combination of Hawthorn, Privet, Dog Rose, Blackthorn and Hornbeam.
Meanwhile, our facilities director, Peter Wade, has been keeping our courts and grounds in tip-top condition. The courts have recently been professionally power-cleaned to remove moss and make the surface safe. The nets and centre straps have been replaced by completely new ones. The leaves are due to be swept up and disposed of on 5&6 December, so bring your ear plugs if you are intending to play on either of those days. Next spring, we shall be getting the courts totally repainted.
Finally, thanks as always to Pat and Ian Udall for their unstinting work keeping the clubhouse and grounds so kempt.
